The American Academy of Dermatology’s (AAD) slogan is “Excellence in Dermatopathology” – always striving to accurately diagnose medical conditions by pathologically performing analysis on samples of the skin, hair, or nails by study under a microscope. Mohs surgery, a specialized surgery for skin cancer, which removes and analyzes results in real time in order to determine whether additional tissue removal is needed, is well known as this form of treatment. The AAD not only provides tools for dermatologists and scholarships for students, but also provides excellent resources to help inform the public how to prevent and detect skin cancer, even providing free skin cancer screenings for consumers. In addition, the AAD produces several publications including the internationally known leading journal in the field, Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology (JAAD), Aspire, and Dermatology World.
