The American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) is the largest national professional organization of eye physicians, including M.D.s and osteopathic doctors who provide medical, surgical and optical eye care. More than 90 percent of practicing US ophthalmologists belong to this society! The mission of the AAO is to enhance the quality of life for patients by helping them to see their best. The Academy provides programs helping doctors to stay updated on the latest technology, drugs and techniques to meet their goals for patient care and outcomes. The Annual Meeting of the AAO is held every year in October, and features the Orbital Gala, the most anticipated social event in the profession.
