The National Medical Association (NMA) is the premier professional organization in the US for African-American physicians. Founded in 1895, this organization promotes the interests of persons of African descent engaged in the cognate professions of medicine, surgery, pharmacy and dentistry, as well as patients of African descent across all fields of medicine. The NMA is committed to assuring available quality healthcare, fighting the adverse health conditions that disproportionately impact African-Americans or underserved populations, and supporting and promoting the physicians of African descent as well as their patients. The NMA’s vision is to act as the conscience of society for quality and parity healthcare; a prominent NMA slogan is “We Stand with You” for improved health for all NMA physicians and their patients. Dr. Michael A LeNoir, is the 114th NMA President and a world-renowned pediatrician and authority in immunology and allergy, practicing from his offices in the San Francisco Bay area. Dr. LeNoir is very visible and active and has been awarded many honors such as: Top Blacks in Healthcare by BlackDoctor.org, top scholar by John’s Hopkins Institute of Health Disparities Solutions, leading African American Physician by Black Enterprise, to name a few, not to mention being involved in medical media by serving as a medical editor for different radio stations as well being the CEO of Ethnic Health America Network which aired an award-winning TV health magazine “Ethnic Health American” on public television as well as on the Black Family Channel.
